Bauhaus influences


I chose this image to show the influences the bauhaus movement had on graphic design. The background features an almost tan color that is not a simple pure color. It uses negative space and use of strait lines to separate objects and colors. The use of black is balanced out with the rest of the colors and the background. The image shows a subject that is not clearly defined, but is balanced and full of color with out being too distracting to the viewer. It uses geometric shapes to and lines to create an enjoyable image.

Infographics


My artist for this weeks post James Gulliver Hancock. He is one of the graphic artists from the Wall Street Journal and creates info graphs, illustrations, and typography for the news paper. The image conveys facts and knowledge about the Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin. It does this by giving pictures that grab the viewers attention and then using arrows and type to inform the viewer about the astronaut. The colors used are black, white, grey, and brown. The colors make it easy to balance out the piece and does not give bright colors to distract the viewer from the image and the information in it. The illustrations in the image are almost similar to doodles, with the type and the arrows to give it a feeling that it was drawn in a students note book. James Hancock uses this style in a lot of his images with the doodle cartoons and distinct lettering that makes it easy to read and follow. The artist created this image along with many others for a book about dreamers, artists, thinkers, and writers. I think this is a fun image and a good idea for a book comprised of only the artists work that conveys information; however, as a stand alone image I do not think that it conveys a lot of important information and doesn't even tell the viewer who the astronaut is.

2.     The firm refused to change the logo calling it a perfect logo, and instead just changed the text

3.     United Airways sent the logo to another firm who only changed the text and the blue to a lighter color

Will Rogers Memorial


For this assignment I was asked to go to the Will Rogers Museum and take a picture of one of the movie posters that featured Will Rogers and describe it. I chose the movie poster from the movie David Harum. The poster features big capital letters placed across a white banner that sports the title of the movie, and the lead actors name in red letters above it that pop against the contrasting yellow background. The Poster also shows a painted image of Will Rogers for the viewer to know who the lead actor is. Underneath the image are the names of secondary actors that sport a blue color with last names all in capitals while the first names are in smaller italics. Along side the names of the secondary actors is a picture from the film, letting the viewer know what the movie is about.

Public Service Announcement

For this assignment I was asked to chose a public service announcement that appealed to me and discus it. As a child I would always grow up and see my dad with tourist shirts saying this is your brain in Denver and places like that, so it is kinda weird that I have fond memories of this commercial. I love how short and simple the message is. Drugs fry your brain. There is nothing more to say. I love how they literally translated their message into frying an egg. They make the message so blunt that they don't even tell you what the message is, they just ask you if you have anymore questions about drugs and what they do to your brain.
